As we enter 2024 with the New Year, I wanted to take some time to reflect on what I had achieved in the previous year, in the hope that it would motivate you too.
Academic and Work:
- Scored Distinctions as overall module grades in all my university modules from Year 2. See this and this for an overview of my second year as a psychology undergraduate.
- Got my first-ever NHS role, working in Liaison Psychiatry in an NHS hospital, which would help immensely with building up work experience. Also, enjoyed celebrating 75 years of the NHS.
- Launched this website, Psych Aspirations, to document my journey towards being a psychologist and to also help, inspire, and guide other psychology students.
- Got a role as a University Student Rep.
- Started volunteering for SHOUT, which is the UK’s first 24/7 Crisis Text Service to support people with mental health crises.
- Continued my work as a Headway brain injury volunteer, supporting service users with traumatic brain injury and I even played the piano to accompany them as they performed a small Christmas carol concert
- Continued work as a teaching assistant in special needs schools.
- Enjoyed my last Christmas as a Psychology undergraduate.
Personal Development
- Developed a lot of resilience and time management skills, due to having to manage an insane school/work/study schedule as well as my other responsibilities, including work and volunteering.
- Deepened my understanding of neuroscience and psychology overall.
- Realised that I may have undiagnosed ADHD, and that discovery helped me to understand myself and my patterns much better, as well as learn effective coping and management strategies that help me use my ADHD to work with me and my goals, rather than against them.
Overall, I am seriously grateful for the opportunities, lessons, discoveries, and growth that 2023 brought me, and I am very excited about what 2024 will have in store!
I hope this motivates you as well!
The best way to predict the future is to create it.
Here is to a successful and productive 2024 for us all
